ODAMBEA FESTIVAL

 The youth have being challenged to desist from the current trend of immoral acts such as
homosexuality, internet fraud or sakawa and the gross disrespect for the elderly in the society.

This was disclosed in a speech given by Nana Kwesi Brebo III, the acting paramount chief of the
Inkusukum Traditional Area during the grand durbar of the Chiefs at this year’s Odambea festival at
Saltpond in the Central Region of Ghana

He continued to urge the youth to be hardworking and disciplined, blaming the high incidence of
indiscipline among both the young and old on total negligence of our cultural heritage.

Nana Kwesi Brebo III also pleaded to the state to ensure an increase in the security of the people in
the Mfansteman municipality especially Mankessim due to the recent killings in the area and asked for
perpetrators to be severely dealt with.

The grand durbar of the chiefs which took place last Saturday at the Victoria Park, Saltpond was to
climax activities commemorating this year’s Odambea festival

Central regional Minister Hon. Ama Benyiwa Doe, in an address advocated for unity among the chiefs
sighting the rampant disputes over land and chieftaincy as a major hindrance to development in the
region.

She also to promise the gathering of the governments dedication towards making their lives better by
creating more jobs in the area and promised works on some major roads will be commencing soon.

Hon. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah the Dept. Minister for Local Government and Rural Development who
doubles as the M.P. for Mfansteman West in a speech promised to refurbish the Victoria Park into a
modern entertainment complex by next year.

The keynote address which was delivered by the minster for Chieftaincy and Culture Hon. Alexander
Asum-Ahensah reiterated government’s position to distance it’s self from chieftaincy matters as
stipulated in the constitution.

This year’s festival enjoyed massive attendance filling Saltpond with endless fun & entertainment
ranging from the Akwaaba street jams to “Twui” a net pulling competition for the fisher folks which was
the first of its kind to be organised during such festivals. Other activities included a Health walk, Cow
parade and a Boat Regatta.

Some of the finest artiste in the musical industry including Mzbel, Keche, Guru, Rana, Atsu Koliko, and
Danso Abiam among others lit up the stage with breath Taking performance during the Akwaaba Bash
on the Friday, whiles K.K. Fosu, Kofi Nti and Kofi treated their audience to some fine contemporary
highlife music at the State Dance on Saturday Evening.

In an interview, Mr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey “Santana” the C.E.O. for Strategic Communications Limited;

the official event organisers of the festival he revealed the need for us to also remember our roots as
the main motivation behind the organization of the festival.

As a son of the land I see this as an opportunity to use my current position to give back to the
community; he stated.

He explained further that, the opportunities presented during such festivals go a long way to benefit
each and everyone by bringing the people good income through trade and tourism whiles creating jobs
for the youth.

Mr. Aggrey pledged to continue his benevolence and promised even a bigger and better festival next
year.

The theme for this year’s Odambea Fesitval was “PROMOTING CULTURAL HERITAGE TO
ERADICATE SOCIAL VICES”

The festival celebration is by the kind support of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, VODAFONE
Ghana and KASAPREKO Company Limited. with Strategic communications being the official event
organizers.
